Fernie BC has been the twelve time host of the TransRockies Mountain bike Race and this weekend will host the first two stages of the Singletrack 6 a newly crafted mountain bike race from the same race developers. Competitors from around the world, some new to the sport of mountain biking and some well established, will grit their teeth, shed sweat and possibly skin to tough it out for the 6 day event. Mountain biking in Fernie BC has a well documented past and an exciting future. The trails network has been hand sculpted in the early days by dedicated individuals all voluntarily, just for the love of the sport and now the Fernie Trails Alliance along with some of the original Fernie trail builders and many more dedicated mountain bike enthusiasts have continued to enhanced this East Kootenay jewel with a network of trails that are challenging and fun for beginners and the more die hard rider. It truly is a celebration of our trail network that so many mountain bike races are scheduled in Fernie every year, I use them regularly, my staff use them and guests who stay at the motel use them week in week out. If you’ve not yet experience the old classics like the grunt up Hyper Extension or the new family friendly Lazy Lizard at Island Lake Lodge then now is the time to do so. The sun has returned, the trails are lush and green and Fernie BC the Southeast Kootenay jewel is shimmering.

This Saturday and Sunday July 23 & 24th marks the start of Stage 1 & 2 here in Fernie BC. An alternative to the full 6 day event would be to tackle the 3 day alternative option of Stage1,2 & stage 3 in Cranbrook, BC.
